    new muffler

im putting lt headers and ory on soon, but i have a slp loudmouth catback.
ive heard the loudmouth rasps with LT's. is there another muffler i can just swap with or do i need a whole new catback.

im debating getting a e-cutout and a quieter muffler, that way ill have the best of both worlds.

i thought some of the rasp was due to the y-pipe design, a parallel merge vs. anything more like Siamese or perpendicular. Look at the SLP vs. like pace setter or others. You can see many merge where the gases collide right into each other. Is that true? I thought I read the flowmaster y-collector was great, low cost, and allows you to build a y-pipe where the collector merges parallel instead of close to perpendicular.

So if the collector has any truth maybe you could reduce your rasp by changing y-pipe designs. I figure since you are adding LTs soon, maybe that would be a good time to get a y-pipe fab to fit your needs.

I could just be off my rocker and talking out my butt. I am sure the experts will stop by and set it straight.

im in the process of installing LT's now. i bought a BBK header/ORY combo. i already have the slp loudmouth catback. idealy i just want to change the muffler/resonator with a different one that will fit. if i have to ill sell this catback and get a different catback.

    you are 110% correct.

cheap y's like pacesetter increase rasp. a nice merge may not eliminate all of it, but it sure helps.

Y-pipe is one of the main culprits. With the LS1's firing order, it creates a weird flow and rasp comes out.

Not when I have the SLP stuff...
It was raspy anytime it was running aside from idle.

my slp powerflo's don't rasp. it's an LM2 with 2 additional powerflo muffs before the tips.

and it's getting louder. 2500 miles later.

I say that on the LLP y-pipe the merge is really nice. They have a siemese merge, not a "slam one into another" style like pacesetters. I still have a little rasp from not having cats, but other than a little at mid rpm, the note is pretty smoothe. Im thinking about getting magnaflow muffler my self now too. But i like mine alittle loud but not like SLP LM.
heres what my LLP ORP looks like. Their cated ypipes are very simular

how does it sound? Does it add too much rasp? Did you get their headers too or just the ORY?

I only got the LLP ORY. My system rasps a little, i think thats cause im missing cats. From what i gather, i guess most ory will create "rasp". Im guessing that the merge on the y has alot to do with it. If some one cuold point out how to pu a sound or video clip on here ill put it on here to demonstrate my system i have right now. Then when i get my HF cats on, ill tkae another sample of sound and see the differnce.
