New intake, need new tune?
I have a 00 z28 with the ls1 intake, it's been dyno tuned before but im thinking about getting an ls6 intake, would I need to get it re tuned for the bigger intake or would it be fine with the tune I have?

It would be fine to drive with the swap without a tune. However for maximum performance out of the ls6 i would suggest a re-tune

To get the maximum peformance out of your new setup you need a tune.

How big is the opening of a stock throttle body on a 00 ls1? Also how wide is the opening on the ls6 intake? I'm thinking of porting my tb and installing the ls6 intake. 15 rwhp?

i would get it retuned just to see what kind of a difference it made. If it costs you too much to get it tuned and dont want to for something that petty then dont youll be fine

I wouldn't bother with the tune. I never retuned for every mod I got but I usually would buy parts together and sit on them till I got some others, then maybe retune after doing several mods together. For just the intake I'd skip for now.

Stock is 75mm....LS6 is the same....Im running a 85mm now but I really liked the ported tb...instantly noticed something, yea its pretty safe to say you'll see a good 15 from the setup....I believe the ported stock see's about 7 rwhp, and you'll probably see around 10 rwhp for the LS6 intake...

I have a ported stock TB and an LS6 intake.
The ported TB vs a 85mm TB has maybe 3-5 hp difference. You wouldn't notice or fell it and not get enough gains to cut off a tenth of a second on the 1/4 mile.
You can get on several places for $150 and under vs say a BBK for $380. For me I found something else to spend the savings on.
LS6 Intake - this is were you'll notice a big difference in hp and feeling. Like others have said, to get the most go ahead and get a re-tune. I recommend Frost. He has done mine and countless others here. Compared to the stock LS1 intake I've read that you get about a 30% more air volume. This is were the tuning comes in. More air requires more fuel. Other wise you starve the motor at top end (called leaning), which can also cause knocking. This means you loss hp in the higher rpm range. You can still run it on your LS1 tune, but you're not getting it's full potential.

Is there much of a difference between an ls6 manifold and say a BBK?

I thought the intakes were 78mm, i know the tb needs ported to be 78, but i always thought that the intakes were 78 fue to all the plate systems being 78mm

Like mentioned, it would run and drive, but to reap the benefits of the intake swap a retune is necessary.
I did the same swap, (I tune myself) and found I had to touch up the fueling tables a bit. In the end it netted me 1/10th and about 1 mph in quarter mile times.

If your not tuned and just dynoed, I would get the tune.
Like other people have mentioned, I'd match the intake up with a new throttle body.

I think they are very close. However, the BBK has gotten a bad rap on fitment and heat soak issues. I know a guy that is local to me that has a BBK intake and he loves it. Hasn't had any issues yet with it over the last year.
One thing I do like about the LS6 Intake is that most ppl think it is still a LS1 intake.

Like SMWS6TA said I would just have frost re tune it instead of paying for a full dyno tune again.

Any decent speed shop will do "touch up" tunes for a fraction of the original dyno tune providing you bring it back to the same tuner. These guys save every tune they do in a database should you ever bring your car back for whatever reason. Your MUCH better off doing that than sending your PCM in.
