which muffler???
ok so i have a 98 camaro ss with 3" full exhaust and my muffler is falling apart so i want to replace it for a good sound/performance muffler. the guy at the muffler shop told me i need a muffler with 3" single inlet and 3" dual outlets, he told me the outlets cannot be smaller than 3 inches otherwise is gona make back presure to the engine but every where i look i find mufflers with 3" single inlet and 2.5" dual outlets. i have looked the most of the best known muffler brands and they all have 2.5 inches dual outlets so is this normal??
the muffler i have right now (and its falling apart) is 3" single in 3" dual outs so i dont know where to get one like this i dont want to loose hp...
in conclusion all the performance mufflers that ive looked at seen to have smaller outlets that the one i have rite now. do the outlets even matter???

u might lose like .35hp by going to a dual 2.5 outlet...if it was a single 2.5 outlet yeah it would be more restrictive. but dual 2.5's nope...thats like actually getting 5 inches of exhaust in a way if u think of it like that..i slapped a magnagflow cat back on my maro. and sounds oh sooooooo good

I would start by finding a new muffler guy. Any basic catback or just muffler will do fine, stay away from flowmaster, depending on the sound your looking for and your budget that should guide you in the right direction.

Borla is kinda pricey but sounds good and looks good although the magnaflow flows good and has a bit of throaty sound.

I had the same problem with my corsa system 3 inches in and dual 3 inch out I could not find a replacement from any brand so I went for a used borla but it was cracked so I had someone weld both mufflers for me and I put the borla system on I was sick of the corsa breaking once a year for the last 4 years

You should like the magnaflow, i have it and it's not bad at all. You can't go wrong, it flows well.

I had magnaflow and its a really good muffler, it flows really well and hardly any rasp at all. I have the Hooker muffler on the car now and suprisingly im very happy with the exhuast. Since i gutted the cats and put on a cut out it does have some rasp but before gutting the cats it sounded perfect.

i got the magnaflow installed and heres my dilemma... i only bought the magnaflow muffler since i already have 3" pipes all the way through. so i went to a diff shop and the guy said he could not install it because that muffler was not for camaro. instead he offers me some flowmaster 40 series or somethin like dat. but i stick to magnaflow so i convince him to install magna. so today i pick up the car and its really quiet!!!! i step on it and i only hear engine revvin but no power sound. i check under and i see he used one of the exits as the inlet ( he expanded a 2.5" to a 3"), and wat was supposed to be the actual inlet as exit.
ok so does it matter the way is connected for sound??? i guess next time i should buy the whole catback so muffler guy doesnt get confused...

performance wise the car feels alot more smoother and more powerfull! my only concern is that is kinda quiet so im thinkin it might be that the muffler is not connected how is supposed to be?!? i want to hear that raspy sound lol!!!

To me and from my own experience magnaflow was not loud at all. I had no rasp at all from it and i had no cats with shorty headers on my past cars. It does get a bit louder the more it breaks in but nothing like the other exhuast systems ive had. I loved the way it sounded with a open cut out and the quality of it was excellent.
