    MSD-6AL Reliability

Any info on how long the MDS-6AL boxes normally last? I've had one go bad in my truck after 1 year and my brother had one die after 2 years. I've heard from some other people they don't last to long, but am curious of the luck others have with them.

I ran the 6A (no rev limiter) in my '86 3/4 ton 4x4 for 5+ years with no problems. ...and the truck road like a tank.
    Drag racing...just another numbers game.

MSD 6AL are great, but they don't like heat. Of the 3 people I know that has had problems with them, they mounted them so they were exposed to extreme heat. For example mounting it above the headers in the engine bay etc.. I've had a 6AL on my Corvette for 5 years now and no problems what so ever.

In my Corvette, I mounted the 6AL in the left side "well' right behind the headlight mechanism.........kept a nice flow of air over it.............will do a similiar mounting arrangement in the SS.

I think with the new one for my bro's car we're going to mount it under the dash with a fan blowing over it. The box was mounted on the firewall of a 3rd gen with a big block so it did get quite a bit of heat. We'll see how that goes.
