    Modify stock air lid?

So I've been scouring google and this forum, and I see many threads extolling the virtues of an aftermarket air lid. I read, I understand the theory, but I haven't seen an aftermarket lid with a stock unit to see where there physical differences are. Is it possible for someone with a little fabrication know-how and motivation to modify the stock one, or create something out of fiberglass or plastic? What is it about this mod that creates more HP?

Not really. All the baffling is gone, there is a large round outlet instead of the narrow oval, and the helmholtz resonator is completely ditched with an aftermarket lid. You can generally find them for $89 to $99.

Just seems that someone properly motivated could manufacture something this simple in their garage. I guess I'll have to wait till I can get one in my hands to see the difference.

We have a member named Bill -- cannot recall his site name -- that fabricated a lid out of polished stainless for his car. It can be done if you want to start from scratch but you'll invest way more time and money into it than in purchasing an aftermarket lid. Modifying the stock lid just isn't going to do a whole lot imo.
