Midnight Blue- 2001 Camaro SS
Modified my exhaust but unsure if its safe???
Hey guys I have a 2001 Camaro SS thats mostly stock other than an air lid and other minor things like a short throw shifter and stuff. I had the TSP catback exhaust with factory cats. But I decided to replace the cats with high flow magnaflow cats that had to be custom fabricated to fit under the car and it still wasn't loud enough so I cut the muffler off and im currently just running straight exhaust with the cats. Is this safe? I dont want to hurt the performance or backpressure on my car. But I do think it sounds much better now and its not raspy at all it actually has a much deeper tone now and just sounds alot meaner I think. Let me know your opinions or if you know anyone else that has done the same thanks.

Midnight Blue- 2001 Camaro SS
Well yeah but that will def. hurt the backpressure and torque if I took the cats off too wouldnt it??? Besides I just spend about 400 bucks buying them and getting them installed.

On my car the slp LM bullet(pretty much a straight pipe) decreased my torq. I could feel it big time. I put a diff muffler on and it feels right now.

BORLA XR-1 Race muffler 5" round x 15" long. It sounds so awsome! I am very happy with it. It provides just enough backpressure In my opinion. I was actually to the point where I was gonna cut the slp loudmouth off and buy a different cat back exhaust. I am so glad I didnt have to do that and waste money. They make them in many different dimensions to fit your application. Here is a link to the cheapest place I found them at + they dont charge shipping! http://www.performancecenter.com/pro...acing+Mufflers

backpressure is a myth.
i have long tubes, no cats going into a 3 inch exhaust.
when i did the exhaust, i gained h.p and torque.2000 nhra edition formula

Black- 2002 Formula Firehawk
when i wake up in the morning and drive my car it feels stronger. But this does not mean it gained or lost hp throughout the night. Like nhraformula said, unless you have before and after dynos then you really cant say you lost hp.
Oh and nhra can i drive your car for the weekend?

It's not all about the gain, but where you gain it at. Backpressure is no myth. If you run cutouts after the headers, or run a straight pipe in place of a muffler, you WILL lose low-end torque. Some people don't mind that, but some do. The gain in top-end power from either is not worth the loss in low-speed grunt in my opinion.

The fact is I dont care who does what-I lost torq and I could feel it period. Thats a FACT.
I guess the SLP LM gives you 25+ HP like they say too huh? I dont think so. Of course an exhaust company isnt going to admit there is a downfall to buying their exhaust.Last edited by LETHALxLS1; 08-21-2007 at 05:48 PM.
