Well they did put the Lsx block in the trucks, they were iron blocks and bigger bores, different intakes. the lm4 motor that came in some midsized trucks and ssr's are alum blocks.

They put LS based engines in the trucks, but never an actual LS1. They have different RPO codes, basically the differences are the intake manifold, cam (both designed for more low end in the truck), block is cast iron, and the displacements are different. Almost all parts are interchangeable though between the truck engines and the LS1.

Yeah, you want the new Vortech engines, either 5.3 or 6.0- they have good specs stock, and the iron block (and I have been told, but haven't confirmed forged crank) are tough, take plenty of horse power- good place to start a build from-

All the "LS" engines are either Gen-III or Gen-IV engines.

They all have the same basic block design

The "LS" motors are aluminum and range from 5.7 to 6.0L

The truck engines were same basic Gen-III block design but were iron
and came in 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 sizes and were called the LM7 (5.3)
    and LQ4 and LQ9 both 6.0 motors.

The heads, cams, intakes, oil pans, transmission, ect. ect. will all
interchange from any Gen-III and Gen-IV engines ...... for the most part with some
    minor exceptions.

The LQ9 from Escalades and Silverado is a popular engine to find.
Its basically a 10-1 compression iron block LS2 with a milder truck cam.

Tahoe's and 1500 trucks can install the '02 Z06 cam, some headers and a tune
    and pick-up 100rwhp

I'm in the process of putting a single front mount turbo on my '02 Tahoe.

Leaving everything else bone stock on the engine.
Run 13psi on a 62-1 turbo with intercooler.

Should make over 500rwtq and 425-450+rwhp at 5,500 rpm.

    Total 5,000 lbs 13.00sec sleeper.

Actually the build is incredibly simple. Total turbo parts cost is only about
$2,300 .... not counting the built 4L60E trans.

I built a custom twin 60mm turbo kit for my 5.8L '89 Mustang so I have the tools
and know how to build it up in the driveway myself.

Only thing being done to the engine is some 42lbs injectors, in-tank high press. 255 pump
and some 6.0L Escalade coilpacks to beef up the spark.

Tune it with HPTuners VMC suite and done. Should be a blast.
The world needs more 550hp Tahoes

What about the LS3/9 and LS7 which are 6.2L and 7.0L, respectively?

Been a long running project. Makes a little over 600rwhp at 10psi.
Havent bumped it up to 15psi yet. Everything is built to hold 800rwhp.
Everything from the turbos to the DIS ignition system running LS1 coil packs is "one off" custom.

    It was generalized remark.

We could do a whole thread on the difference in the Gen-IV engines alone.

I grew up with the 5.0's so they always have a little place in my heart
Paid a lot of attention to detail and as you can see tried to put something
together unique. Taken about 2 years of constant tinkering.

I'll start a thread on the Tahoe , give yall the low down.
Going to go do a "stock" baseline dyno pull this week too, see what I really gain.

    Thanks all.
