    ls1 2001 thermostat shim/ cooler engine

looks like this mod got lost in the internet black hole....

if anybody has information, i'd like to learn more on how to perform this so that my engine will run cooler. right now the thermometer is stuck at 210 for a 2001 ws6 firebird.

    thanks!!

i hear that the factory gauges do not really give an accurate reading anyways, and mine is always around 200 in the city driving

This? http://www.ls1camaro.net/sections.ph...ticle&artid=19 The '01 cars supposedly already have a 180 according to the owners manual. As stated the '99 and up gauges aren't accurate - I have a 160 with the fans set at 184/175 and 194/185 and gauge still reads the same.

My 00 ss runs at 210 degrees in traffic or riding down the freeway. It never goes above or below that. I want to change to a 160 degree thermostat. Every time I do something to it it throughs a ses light.

My thoughts on lower tstats in hot weather - once open they won't close until the car cools off - get a manual switch, or reprogram the fans. A lower tstat shouldn't throw a SES light.

I was in the desert last month in 105-110 degree air temps. and my cars temp gauge stayed below 200*. The high speed fan got a good work out. The stock set-up has the car operating at a max of 215* and the with the tuner and 160* t-stat it keeps it down to around 190*.
