Louder? or placebo?
I finally made my first "hp" mod. I use the quotes because I'd figure the gain to be minimal... at best.
I removed the accordion bellows and replaced them with 3" to 3" Fernco tubing. TIGHT fit but I got it all back together with no noticeable gaps. everything is together and screwed TIGHTLY.
Strange thing is I can now hear the intake sucking air in from inside the car. It feels a little peppier and my exhaust sounds a bit louder. Does smoothing the airflow improve the amount entering the engine that much? I know SLP "claims" 6hp from their bellows. but thiers costs 10 bucks per hp mine was 1 buck per hp
So what do you think? smooth bellows makes intake and exhaust a little bit louder?

The Fernco coupling was the second mod i did. (The first was a Transgo shift kit). I noticed an increase in noise from the engine and a little from the exhaust too.
Try an aftermarket lid, then an SSRA and you will start to hear a lot more of that deeper noise from the engine. Sounds great in the mid rpms.

yeah a lid is next on my list. not sure about the SSRA in NY it gets very hot very humid and lots of stop n go traffic... i'd need all the cooling capacity I can get.... speaking of which maybe i should get a 160 t-stat too... lol

If you want to hear the ultimate wooshing from your intake, take off the air duct resonators around the air intake.
Those are what muffle most of the noise your intake is making

I don't think you can just take them off the stock lid..... i'll have to wait till my SLP lid shows up to hear that sound. I was on the fence for a while as to which lid I wanted but seeing as I have an SLP Firehawk I guess the SLP lid would just look that much more stock.

The resonators are removed when you install the SLP lid. Some people complain about fitment issues. One of the hold down clips used to pop off on mine all the time. I just notched the plastic with a utility knife and it stays put now.
If your car idles in traffic a lot you may want ot stay away from the SSRA. My car runs about 10 degrees hotter while in traffic jams; cooler on the freeway however.
Not sure if a 160 stat will solve your problem. There is a lot of info if you do a search. I decided against it after finding out it would lower my mpg.
Good Luck with the build.
