Lid or Kit
A friend of mine has a 02 Z28 that already has a K&N drop in filter. Would he be better off getting a open element style intake (volant) or just grabbing a lid? What are the differences in the lids? Would a bellow be worth the cash?
Thanks

Lid, differences is that slp generally is a tighter fit (pain in the ass to get on). Bellow isn't worth it, if he is dead said he could go to home depot and pick up a fernco rubber coupling.

I do not like my SLP lid. It does not fit well, and I can see stress lines on the tabs already, makes me worry they are going to snap. And this guy is right, it's a pain in the ass to get on, and even after the struggle it's not airtight. I have read many posts where others say the same thing.
I am going to switch it to the Volant just so I never have to worry about fitment issues. And I don't want to have to fight the lid on and off to check the filter. I know there's always a debate on whether the Volant is worth the extra money and a lid is a lid. But I know pollen has gotten in the lid behind the filter. So it'll be worth it to me...Last edited by Schmalgar; 04-19-2010 at 09:03 AM.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
I've had both the Volant CAI and (I currently have) a lid (MTI). Unless you have a fresh air hood (SS, VFN or the like) a lid (with corresponding mods like cut out base and deflector under it) outperforms the Volant. I also have a smooth bellows. I picked up .15 sec and almost 2 mph.

SLP lid and smooth bellows here and no fitment problems either. I will say its a chore to get the tabs to slide in place but it seems to be air tight. No trimming on the bellows either. I did notice when the motor mounts were rotten it was alot harder to get the lid in place though. Since replacing then with prothane, no problems to speak of.
