Keep K&N, or go to paper filter?

Ive been hearing bad things about how the K&N filters are letting dirt pass through into the motor,is this true, if so is maybe the Holly Pwershot fliter better, or should i go with a paper filter.....If so, am i going to loose any hp, i wouldnt think it would be much if any... Help me out

i ditched my k&n filter a while back. i noticed debris on my maf screen of fair size and oil from the filter (brand new out the box, never cleaned) on the maf elements. Fram paper filter in there now.

A properly oiled K&N filter shouldn't let in any more dirt than a regular paper air filter.

If there was dirt on your MAF screen, someone probably oiled the wrong side

I like my K&N, but my buddy has a RAM truck and the rubber seal tore on it, and that is not under warranty. So they are not perfect and expensive if you need to replace it for some reason.

Use paper. They do let dirtier air in your engine.

I dont know why anyone would want to go to a paper filter over a K&N.....I ran one for over 100K and never had a problem with it....and when I tore that motor down I didn't see any signs of dirt getting in there.....

If you're finding dirt, you might want to start considering other reasons, 'cause the filter isn't it. Try looking at the gaps if you've got a higher lid on it, remember that any openings above the filter are letting anything that'll fit in.

I'v been using a accel kool blue filter for about 2 years and so far so good. No dirt no problems.
Tests show that K&N filters flow pretty good and any filter will flow better than the paper ones.

Some people have found elevated levels of silicon in UOA's that magically dropped when the K&N was removed. Some people don't have problems, some people do. Is it worth taking the chance? I won't be.

K&N's do flow better than stock paper filters....but because of that they let in more dirt. It's simple physics if you think about it. If you want the best flow possible and dont care about gumming up your engine, just run it with the filter off. Personally, I'd rather lose 1-2 hp then get dirt in my engine and have problems with the maf from oiling the k&n. Paper all the way!

get a paper filter, the oil from the k&n filter gunks up your maf, if not other stuff.

ummm....i have never heard of the K&N oil causing any problems even though it may get onto elements of the intake process. I ditched the seal and didn't use it since i have a lid. either way, as long as you have a lid, the filter wont make a huge difference

I quit on the KN's. I use the Amsoil dry cone filters now. DIrect replacement for my KN filter. Better flow numbers and much better filtering....and no oiling nothing....so keep your CAI and just replace with the dry cone filter.

Do you have any Flow numbers on those???? I'd be curious to see how they stand up against a K&N.....

Google K&N versus Amsoil EaaU...make up your own mind....we changed during the MAF versus SD debates...and the fact my KN showed "stuff" accumalating in the TB and the Amsoil doesnt....nuff for me...plus the no oiling is good....AEM has a dryflow filter that just came out also....

3 cars all with K&Ns in different sizes. Never one problem.

Now I run the Holley Powershot and still no problem.

I find that some people mishandle certain products and blame their problems on the product rather than themselves.

If I had to be using paper filters I wouldve purchased maybe over a 100 by now. Of course that has slowed down since I ripped that fucking FTRA right out of my car. In any case, a cotton filter would cost less in the long run against papers.
