    Intake Manifold Change + ?

Ok, I have been looking for a LS6 Intake Manifold because I only have the LS1 one.

Do I just need the manifold? Or do I need it to come with other things as well? Such as the injectors? Or can I just use what is already on my LS1 intake manifold?

Also I read that while I am changing the intake manifold, I should do a valley cover mod? and a catch can?

If so can I get links on the parts I need? and if it isn't "sponsored", can you send it to me in a pm?

I just want to get everything done right the first time so I don't have to go through the heart ache of doing it all twice and messing up.

    Thanks

Ya I read it, so basically all I need is the bare LS6 intake manifold for the swap. But the article didn't say whether I should change out anything while it is already apart. Are there parts/hoses that will be junk and I should replace while I am already there?

Edit: Also what do I GAIN from doing a valley cover or catch can replacement or whatever? (Don't know much of anything at all about these honestly.)

It would not be a bad idea to change your knock sensors and valley cover while you are doing the swap.

What are the gains from changing the Valley Cover? Also, same thing for knock sensors?

Valley cover cleans up the engine bay a little bit and replaces the JUNK PCV system that these LS1's have. I highly recommend doing it along with a catch can and knock sensors. THen you are totally covered. Purpose of the Catch Can along with the Valley is to stop Oil from entering your intake and gunking up the Manifold and Throttle Body.

Alright thanks, and where can I get a Valley cover, a catch can, and knock sensors? I need an idea as to where to order all of this stuff and get an idea of the price for the whole project.

    Thanks

Sponsors for the site should have all of the stuff. KYspeed is a really good place to start.

I honestly cannot find a Valley Cover anywhere on Kentucky Speed. If you could link it or send in PM that would be great. My problem is that I can't find a place to buy one.

    OP

I order these from GMPartsDirect.com (sponsor and the cheapest vendor that has these parts. Side note I had to wait an extra week for the VCT, but worth the wait)

Here are the part numbers you will need

LS6 Valley Cover Tray - Part Number 12577927 COVER Cost $54.65
99'-02' Knock Sensor - Part Number 12589867 SENSOR Cost $37.50 (you need 2)
99'-02' Knock Wire Harness - Part Number 12601822 WIRE Cost $28.65

Catch Can - they vary in cost. I've seen some as low as $65 and high as $200. You get what you pay for. I got mine at WS6 Store. Can't post link due to they are not a sponsor but you can go there yourself.

Only other thing I could suggest is if you get a used LS6 Intake get a new set of Intake seals. I also got ARP Intake bolts with mine, don't forget Anti-seize. Also plan on needing an OPSU (Oil Pressure Sending Unit). They become brittle and break easy when you remove the intake for the first time. It is located behind the intake on the drivers side.

Orion gave you a great link on how to do the Intake swap. The link also has instructions on how to do the VCT swap also. I've used both with no issues.

    2 more things

First: I also forgot to add that if you get the LS6 Intake you have to make a choice between getting the LS6 coolant by-pass kit or modifying your LS6 Intake. The kit blocks of the rear coolant ports and has a new front piece. Modding the Intake means you have to remove some of the fins on the bottom of the intake to let the LS1 coolant lines still work.

Second: Here is a good how to thread on how to do the VCT.

Thanks SMWS6TA, you are always helpful. I really wish I could have gotten this LS6 Intake for $250... but the guy wouldn't sell it because he wanted to sell it with local pick up only. I mean really? How hard is it for him to accept an extra $25, put it in a box, and ship it to me 1 state away?!?!

Oh well. I will keep looking until I find one.

Sounds fishy......Keep looking, You'll find one. Orion embarrassed me when I was looking because I made a post complaining about how hard they are to find and he finds one 30 mins from me on craigslist and for $300.

Nice, I am looking on craigslist in the Oklahoma/Texas area. The majority of them are in Texas, and its annoying when they don't want to ship it to Oklahoma.

Are there no mods that can be done to the LS1 manifold itself? How about a LS2 throttle body swap?
