Hooker headers Stainless and still cheap??
So im looking into headers and my local man says if your gonns do it do it right and get stainless steel and never worry about replacing them. So i agreed and after looking around found Hooker stainless steel LT's on TBYRNE. They have the black painted, ceramic coated, and stainless steel. Now why is it that the ceramic coated is cheaper than the stainless seeing as stainless is all around better? Finally is im going to spend the 680.00 for ss lt's is there another brand I should go with, if im going to spend that much ill jump up an extra hundred or so if its worth it. I'm going with 1 3/4 (car is a dd) and has at this point ive got.
Summit also has the hooker lt's for 1,000 http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp
are these the same as the tbyrne-- http://www.tbyrnemotorsports.com/ls1catalog.html

stainless steel is always the best option for headers. all coatings on headers are good coatings from just plain old ceramic to the reall reputable jet hots. the thing that gets all coated headers is the small rocks and debris that can sometimes hit a part of the header itself and once even a fragment of the coating is chipped well there starts your rusting problem.

Looks like i'll go with the hooker LT's then. As for a y-pipe couldn't I use the stock one until I had the $ for a Y with high-flow cats (would go with ORY but ive heard GMMG sounds like crap without cats).

You won't be able to use the stock y-pipe, because of the Long Tube headers extra length.

I thought cermiac coatings lasted for prob longer then you'll own the car. Is it even worth it to get the stainless steel headers. I mean will it keep the temps down as much as cermiac coating or headers.

people who get stainless, generally like the bling bling factor.
stainless headers dont get rust like non stainless do.
thing is, even non stainless heaaders will last a long long time.
surface rust isnt a big deal.
i had a 81 Z/28 for over 5 years with uncoated headers on it.
i drove that car year round. it never rusted threw even threw chicago winters.

Ceramic coated headers are fine but while driving if the smallest little chip is taken out of them from a rock or debris, the rusting will begin. So with cermaic headers rusting is an eventual problem but they are good none the less just not permanent.
