heat wrap headers install

I just got my headers (obx long tubes) I wanted to wrap them
Up with heat wrap to reduce the heat . I thought it would be
a good idea... has anybody wrapped there headers before installing
Them in there cars and would it make it hard to insta
ll the headers wrapped ?

I have wrapped my headers since about 1969. All of them. Today the headers on the 08 Silverado and the 04 GTO are wrapped. Have been since day one. The"myth" of rusting is exactly that...it is a "myth"...just like Pennzoil cause sludge....
Use the steel wrap ties to secure it and do not over wrap.....

Overlap about 1/4" to 3/8" of and inch. Tie it up with the steel tie wraps.
It'll stink a bit for a short while.

collector to flange, or flange to collector

from flange to collector. Do each primary from flange first as far as possible separately, then from where primaries meet to flange is how I did mine and it works well for me.

I've used wrap from DEI, and it works just fine. I prefer the black stuff, because the white stuff won't stay white, and looks nasty after a while.

Do as suggested above, wrapping from the flange down, and use the stainless tie wraps, and you'll also have good results.

Flange to collector. Get yourself a spray bottle and fill it with water. Spray that shit down before you wrap. If you dont you'll have that asbestos shit all over you and itch like a bitch for awhile. Trust me on how I learned that trick.

Well kegs has 2" 50' for $29.99 it's on sale so I was planning on
Buying that and the and the straps. The reason that I want to put
want to wrap them is to keep that hyd line from getting so hot.
By the way I have an m6... so what do ya think about that

That clutch hydraulic line should be behind a heat shield anyway as it snakes up towards the firewall,,,,(mine is anyway)

And I've never had any heat issues with my painted headers.

But if heat reduction is what you want, then the wrap will most certainly do that for you.

Well keep having problems @ high rpms the clutch stays a Lil down then comes back up. I bought a tick mc and put a new slave cylinder also made by perfections and still having problems so I thought y not try the wraps for the headers. So that's that's the reason

Here are some old pics of my last wrap job. Clean them headers good before you wrap them. I use brake cleaner. Wipe them down good. Wear latex gloves. Take your time. I cannot remember how many feet I went through. I guess about 50' per header.....I really cannot remember....

So should I wrap them right before install? I have the headers now, but I wont be installing them for probably 6 months, can I wrap them now, and install them then? I read something about them needing to heat cure

You can wrap them now if you like. Doesn't hurt anything.

The heat cure is upon startup. As mentioned above, they tend to stink for a while.

Wrap em up. You sure as hell will not wrap them when they are installed. They will heat cure as you drive. May even smoke a tad. No biggie. Just for a short while.

Dont forget to soak the wrap in water to keep your hands from itching so bad and loosen the fibers up. And pull it litterally AS TIGHT AS YOU CAN.....I'm talkin veins poppin outta your arms tight. You will be much happier at the end whens its done nice and tight.
