    Headers For LS1?

Why is it that i hear so much of headers causing many a problem for the LS1...especially the F-Bodies? What is it exactly that makes them cause so much maintenence and headaches? Ive read many horror stories about them and was just wondering why this is, if it's true. Thanks for all of your help.

What kind of horror stories have you had, I haven't heard much in that way. IMO I wouldn't cheap out with headers, I would go with Kooks stainless steel long tube headers with their catted y-pipe. They tuck up really nicely, they fit perfect, they are really easy to install, they have proven gains in hp & tq. They like with any mod may need some minor tunning done to the car, O2 sims, even a/f would need to be adjusted. Do some more research and choose the header that works best for you and your budget. good luck

Zero problems with my SLP's. They hung a little low, and the install was a little f'ed up, but hey....I didn't do it.
    BTW...you can buy them.

Just had Pacesetter headers put on today. GREAT power gains and NO problems, and unlike SLP headers, NO ground clearance issues. You lose 1 1/2" with SLP's headers--not worth it to me, you pay $$$ for SLP headers and lose clearance.

I had Pacesetters and they knock so bad I took them off and got some Mac Mids.... I can't tell yet how much power I might have lost but its not noticeable and the Macs fit SO much better... I dont know if Pacesetter fixed the problem but I'll never buy anything they make again....

I just put a set of the SuperMAXX headers on my wife's 2000 SS. The kit is really awesome. Everything you need to install them is in the kit right down to the O2 extension wires and some zip ties. At first I had some banging issues on the driver’s side of the y-pipe (my fault), but some quick adjustments and that problem is solved. They have been on the car for about 4 days now and we have zero problems. They are stainless steel all the way through (even the cats) and fit perfect. No ground clearance issues at all. The sound is fantastic through the Borla cat-back and the power increase is enough that you can really feel it. They are on the expensive side, but the quality of the welds and the design is worth the money. If you’re in the market for a good quality kit then you should take a good hard look at the SuperMAXX headers.

I have Pacesetters and have never had a knock problem, or did I have an install problem with them. For the money I would recommend them to anyone.

knocking problems with pacesetters is the y pipe. actually most companies y pipes knock.
that is easily fixed with a torch or the mufflex y pipe fix.

    Re: Headers For LS1?

I have the flowtechs and the flange to the head is really thin and it leaks. Install had no issues it went fine. I would not recommend them though, i agree with the whole "you get what you pay for" saying. Id recommend the hookers or jet hots.

i have hooker LT super comps on my 02 TA and they look great but they still need a little tuning done to the cat back system. installing them took awhile, but it was worth it!

As far as I have seen 2 of the top choices are the Hookers and the Pacesetters...not sure which comes out #1?
