    1996 Trans am

    Question headers

    i have a 96 trans am 5.7L lt1 with k&n cai, 6 speed short shift and bolra catback exhaust, and i am fixing to get pacesetter headers. Should i or do i need to get it tuned after i get my headers on?

    it is not required, but i would strongly recommend it. I put the LT Pacesetters on my 99 Trans Am and after a tune, gained over 20RWHP and over 30TQ over what the headers already add so a tune would def help.

    Ceramic coated is the way too go.

    A tune can be expensive though, so weigh that with your goals for the car. If you intend to go with heads and cam and full bolt-ons then it may benefit you more in the long run to get your car tuned when you really need it. You should see some benefit from a tune with headers though, since the car will detect the larger movement of exhaust and a lean condition and adjust the fuel/air to run rich.

    But real cars should chop and stink!

    Yeah old school, "Chop and stink" used to refer to big cams, but with long tubes you will be getting a smaller but similar effect.

    It should make small children light headed, and terrify small animals!
