Headers
What up ls1. I know this question is up in the air but can headers really give 40 hp. I'm lost, too many headers on the market and i have no clue. I also want to know what i should look for when purchasing headers, like what should come with it. Not too worried about passing smog, can get that done somewhere local. and which brand is probably the best hp for the buck, i guess i can spend up to around 700 dollars on headers.Any advice is good advice for me.

haha yah qtp and slp have those claims in the summit mag. The premo headers are qtp and kooks which are stainless steel will easily eat up that $700 budget let alone you still need a different y-pipe. Pacesetter is the middle brand which will cost you between $300 and over $400 for the ceramic which help with heat and will last longer than non coated. Or you could op for the ebay option headers which are around $220 shipped. There was a thread made http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread...ht=ebay+option
read it they seem to be decent considering they are probably made in china. You are also going to have to get a different y-pipe or go duals

a true equal length primary and a good merge be close to 40 not all headers are equal but sometimes a bit extra power isn't worth 4-500 extra bucks with a tune i would say 40hp

I'd say 40hp is only attainable if you have supporting mods like heads and a cam. On a bolt on car 20-30 hp is a good number when coupled to a catback exhaust.

You can buy all the heads and header types you want. Tuning is really the only why to get good use out of what you buy for it..

Maybe a full exhaust will net you that, most likely you would need to get it tuned.

thanks for the info. So each set of headers only work with A CERTAIN y pipe or can my local muffler shop make something custom for me. I plan to just buy the y pipe off summit or ebay and have the shop weld the pipes for me to my cme. I also think im going to only run the slp resonator no cat or muffler, what you guys think. my buddy runs resonators on a dual pipe no muffler sounds beefy to me.

So pretty much brand doesnt make that much difference as long as its 1 3/4 ceramic coated headers. Car will just be bolt ons with a dyno tune.

To the OP. Most all LT's will make within 2-3rwhp of each other. Pacesetter's fit good and are the standard for budget headers. I have never seen the Ebay header's so cannot comment on them. If you don't get SS then get ceramic coated for sure.
In hindsight I would prolly have gone another route than my KILLER ARH Headers and put that extra cash towards better heads.......

so then i have a supporting question to this guys question... so if the headers on ebay The $200 off brand of who the heck ever is made of 304T Stainless Steel, and with 3 1/4 Primeries and 3" collector, are they good? now i know ebay headers are made out of sections on some of the primaries, which kinda bugs me, id rather have one piece then 3 tubes welded together. HOWEVER, has anyone ever tested these things? or have SOME kind of info? The other header sticky thread started off good but then turned into "listen to my car" but no one is saying anthing. One guy said his ebay header/ory system worked good for him, but thats all i got out of him. Im with the guy that started this tread where im trying to stay away from the $1000 headers. Id rather spend half that and ebay an intake and heads for the other half. So to recap.... EBAY HEADER YEAH or NAH... oh... and WHY? hope i didnt steal the thread, just trying to get this guy more info as well as myself.

After you choose your headers, you can have a exhaust/muffler shop build you a y-pipe. All you have to do is get a 3" in/out flowmaster merge collector from Summit for about $45. Thats what I did and it cuts down on rasp BIG TIME!

We actually looked into it... On Friday nights we hang with quite a few, but somehow you just can't beat a t/a with the ceta mod.
Plus..... It would have to be a new bumper altogether as 'birds have exhaust cutouts that camaros don't...... So all we do (Camaro owners) is slap a valance on.
