Header And Y-pipe Question?????
I Just Got My Ta In April This Year And I Have A Catback Flowmaster Exhaust And Lid And K&n Filter. My Question Is I Was Thinking Of Getting Long Tubes And Y-pipe W/ No Cats(no Emmisions Here) Or Just Getting A Y-pipe W/ No Cats. What Would Be The Diff. Horesepower Would U Notice Long Tubes Over Just Y-pipe? Would A Off Road Y-pipe Be Alright Or Enough? Money Is A Big Diff. Between The Two. Any Help Would Be App. Thank You!!!

I'm not 100% on the numbers, but long tubes are a big improvment over stock manifolds.

Getting a ORY w/o LT's is stupid. Besides ulneed a new ypipe if ur gonna get LT's. A good set of longtubes will net u anywhere from 20-30hp after a good tune. Some give more but dont go by the highest gain. A good set of LT's is almost like an investment becasue once u start working on the engine (heads, cams) ull need headers for her to breath well.

Y-pipe without headers is not worth it. BUT an off road y-pipe is not really necessary. If you have the money get coated LTs and a catted y-pipe. Unless your car is lowered or will be. If this is the case the catted y-pipe will drag on normal driving.
I honestly dont think you need stainless. I have had them all and Non coated do last longer than 3 months, but the coating is not that much more coin, so get coated. non coated will deteriorate quick in your enviroment. The differance in a set of, say, Pacesetter coated LTs and stainless of any brand is huge.
You allready have a catback and lid, so the natural progression is LTs and y-pipe.
And you say no heads and cam now, but trust me, that is what I said. Now look

But if money isn't an option, stainless will last longer.

Definately, but I think the OP was looking for a less expensive option. The OP did mention money in his post. I doubt I would spend the money on stainless even if I had the extra. I would put it toward a cam or heads, and I did. I mean you can get nice heads these days for less than 1500, and cams under 300. I personally think the money would be better spent in other places than stainless.

If it were me I would post up a help plea on you local boards. They are really not that hard on an LS1.
Tune is really not all that necessary with just exhaust. You dont absolutely need a tune til you get into heads, cam etc. Mine ran perfect with no tune with heads and LTs, so yours should be fine. A good dyno tune will run you around $400 to $500. Install of the headers can be anywhere from $200 to $450 depending on how proud the shop is.
