Header Question
Ok so I actually have the money to drop on Long Tubes and an ORY and of course I'm going to go with a set of coated Pacesetter LT's, but I have a quick question. I'm going to get a set of o2 sims and locking header bolts and copper gaskets and the whole 9 yards. But I'm thinking of taking out the AIR and EGR from my 99 trans am. the question is, if I get headers that do not have the egr hook ups and get the block off plates for my intake manifold, is it going to throw a code? And if it does, will it gimp the cars performance? And if it gimps it, what do I need to do that won't cost me a 500 dollar tune to erase the code? Will this cause any problems? Thanks!

Yes, it will throw a code, but it won't hinder performance. You will, however, need to get rid of the code to pass emissions/inspection (well, at least here, I don't know about you).

Sweet man thanks I did a complete spark plug change with the AIR and EGR in the way, was a serious pain in my ass. Really appreciate it.

This is just personal opinion and my experience. Pass on the locking header bolts and copper gaskets. The stock gaskets will work fine and I never even used the locks on my stage 8 bolts, waste of money IMO.

Yeah, don't use the paper gaskets that come with the headers either. Just get some OEM metal ones.

Much appreciated. I was just thinking stage 8's to keep from having to tighten header bolts every month because it would be a pain in the ass to the #8 cylinder LoL Have any of you guys had to tighten header bolts or had a problem with leaks or gasket blowouts without locking bolts?

Not me. But I've only put about 500 miles on mine since I installed them last summer.

Its nice having a beater vehicle, isn't it?

for sure. though my Exploder is far from being an offical 'beater'. it's actually is good condition for 120k. 4x4, sunroof, leather, the good wheels, runnig boards, no rust, v6 engine. has everything you could get for one back in 96 except for a CD player...
price was a steal at only $2500 from a friend of the families...

That's funny you call your 'explorer' an exploder, because my friend calls his that too. His has 150K miles with a vacuum leak and some bad brake wear. But his is a 97 Eddie Bauer Edition with the old 5.0.
But my truck is definately a beater, 86 F-150 with more rust than red, but hey A to B is all that counts for that one.

So if you dont tune out the code you get nothing but an annoying SES light? If so I'm just getting the race headers and screw that crap. We have no emissions or inspection here anyway.
