    header install

OK, i have had set of ceramic coated lt's sitting in my living room for about 2 weeks now while I have been trying to find a lift to use to install them. I know a couple of people who will let me use the lift but our schedules have yet to mesh. Can these be installed with the car sitting on ramps? I dont really mind laying under the car as opposed to standing. I am a jeeper so the asphault beats laying in the mud to do a repair anyday.

I figured it would be the following process:

~Drive car onto ramps and let cool
~pull spark plug wires and possibly plugs
    ~disconnect stock y pipe
~unbolt header and pass through to the bottom
~turn new one sideways and slide under the car, then wiggle it into place and attempt to get bolts back in
~rinse and repeat on other side
~install new ypipe and splice o2 extensions in

i figure that is about the basics, I just didnt know if I was going to run into major complications.

    any suggestions?

I will have a friend or 2 helping on this project, and we will all be mostly sober

With just ramps, I don't think the car will be high enough in the air.

correct...won't be high enough. I've seen where people stack 2x4's on top of the ramps to get the extra height needed.

    Height is the Key

You can do it on ramps but the rear will be too low for the back at the same time. I used jack stands on all four and was still worried because I was afraid it would teeter off. After working awhile and yanking and banging the teetering never came to mind (rock solid). I have seen some use cinder blocks on all four and other use old rims and lumber. Regardless renting a lift for a day would be the way to go. Good luck

I used ramps, then i jacked it up quite a bit more, then i used two jack stands with some 2x4's and it worked just fine. The passenger side is a PITA. But it can be done.

eh, thats about what i figured, might have to work a little harder on finding a lift. Or get more beer.

I used 6 ton jack stands, they were 21"+. Picked them up at harbor Freight for $20pr on sale. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=38847 . I agree, I don't think ramps will get you high enough without using boards on top of them... Here's a pretty good guide http://www.geocities.com/foff667/98Camaropg4.html
