header install
hey guys, i am installing headers and a TD X-pipe on my car and i have 2 three ton jacks, a pair or ramps, and a pair of twelve ton jack stands. what is the best way to lift the car up and safely work on it with the equipment i have??? i was thinking ramps on the back and jack up the front then use jack stands for safety, but then how would i get the jack under the front to lift it up since it will be pointing down??? .........i would think the jack would have to go straight in from the front so it can roll as the car lifts, but if the nose is pointing down how is that possible??? maybe i am overthinking it, but any suggestions or experiences would help. THANKS!!

1.put the ramps in back of the car
2.jack the car up from one side
3.put a stand under the side you jack up
4.go jack the car up on the other side
5.put stand under the side you just jacked up
to be on the safe side you might have to repeat steps 3-5 a couple times like i did
i just did this last week to install my whole exhaust.

so do you drive the car up on the both ramps first, OR do you jack the car up and then put the ramps under the back tires when you jack up each side??

I drove the car on the ramps "front end" then i placed the jack under the front cross member and jacked it as high as the jack would go then i placed the jack stands under either side frame rail, and i had plenty of room to instail headers and y pipe and still have enough room to remove the muffler. make sure you place a brick or something behind the rear two tires so the car wont shift at all.
Thats just the way i did it
J2001 SS, Its not the car its the Driver that matters....

you have to drive the car backwards onto the ramps. then make sure you put the parking brake on and then you can roll the jack directly behind the front tires to get to the jacking point that are shown in the pics.
you could do it sunsetorangess's way also but....i will tell you right now that it is much easier and safer to do it the way i did mine. you will really benifit from having more room under the car at the catback as opposed to not having the rear of the car off the ground
