header and exhaust setup
so here is the situation that i am in. i live in Illinois and need to be able to pass emissions but i want headers, off road y-pipe, and exhaust. i know all i need to do is have the installer program out the codes. i already know i want to go with the pacesetter headers but here are my questions:
1. should i go with the 1998-02 with no AIR and EGR or the 2000-02 regular coated headers?
2. will the pace setter headers hookup with the hooker ORYpipe? or which one do you guys suggest?
and 3. i want a dual catback exhaust with the single tips. most of the systems i see are either 2.5" or 3.5" tips. i want to go with a 3". i think 3.5 is just a little akward looking. the only system i see is the flowmaster american thunder. i have heard people on hear say they think the muffler is to restrictive so any suggestions would be appriciated.

go with the race sytle which is minus the egr bullshit.
im not sure if pacesetters will work with a hooker y pipe.
get a hooker exhaust which is about 300 bucks and put on tips of youre choice.
btw, i passed emissions here. i have long tunes, no egr, catless y pipe and a cam. speedinc made sure i would pass. im on the northwest side of chicago2000 nhra edition formula

No emission fittings on the Headers is the only way to go,much easier to work on and the Hooker CB sounds great I had one on my Trans Am.

so do you think that i should forget about the pacesetters and go with a complete hooker setup from the headers back? super competition heards, ory pipe and thecat-back exhaust. i was only able to fine one hooker exhaust on jegs that fit 98-02 camaro so i am guessing that is the one you guys are talking about. then just scrap the tips. does anyone on here have a full hooker setup and got any suggestions?

pacesetters are just as good if not better than the hooker headers.
you can get pacesetters(coated) and a pacesetter orp for about 500 bucks.

ok cool.any idea of a set of cutouts that will hook up to that system? i wish i had the extra money for electric but i will have to go with the manual ones.
i also have another real quick question. what length tip should i be looking for to match the hooker exhaust? i want it to stick out the back of the car at as close to stock as possable.Last edited by amitc31100; 01-01-2007 at 07:59 AM.

I would think any 3" cut-out would work,as far as tips go something around 6" would probably be best, but I really don't know for sure.

well, i actually decided to go with the flowmaster exhaust. i forgot who i heard it from but they said the muffler was restrictive. i decided to see for myself and if anything will replace just the muffler later. so i am gonna be getting the pace setter headers and ypipe, both no egr and air, then the flowmaster american thunder exhaust. thanks for all the input though

I have 4" dia. 22" long Magnaflow stainless steel rolled tips on my car, and it is in proportion to the car. Woke up the LM quite nicely. 6" tips is a little excessive, IMO...

I was referring to length not diameter.

Ah.
Okay. Wasn't sure.
I liked the slash tips that the loudmouth had.
Right now...I don't have tips. Just pipe out the back. I kinda like it...subtle.
