header and cutout question
i sould be installing a set on long tube heades and OR y pipe soon, and was wondering what kind of hp number sound i see along with track times...this is on a 02 ss m6 bone stock that went a best of 13.1 @108 so far, i well be running a stock cat back after the y pipe
also i see alot of people with cutouts but they are not making anymore power with it open (with somekind of catback) that i just did a quick search on
but with me running a stock catback do you think it would make more power with a cutout?

if you stick with a stock catback it will choke you up like 02sweet said and having a cut out will open that up and give you a little more power. with LTs and ORY you should get a tune to get the full potential. as for HP you should expect 300-330 rwhp depending
(gear ratio, mileage, ext.) if i were you I would do it the right way, LT ORY and a cat back. I have the magnaflow 3" catback and love it. here are some clips.

I got 358/ 369hp with my headers and catback. Hehe
I have personally witnessed a gain of 50 Rwhp from a cut out, it was on a built car pushing a 200 shot of nitrous tho.... I have a video somewhere, I thought it was insane

I agree w/Faught and 02sweet, if your all stock and plan on staying that way, you'll def. see some benefits from the cutout.
If your motor is going to stay stock for a while, like mentioned above, you'll be more than fine with out a cutout with LT's, ORY and a catback.
All-in-all it depends on what your long term goals are.Last edited by KMdef9; 03-13-2011 at 01:27 PM.

damn nice time. I drag raced for the first time last summer, same ET and MPH. Granted heat and humidity made the DA 4800' though. Mines 380 rwhp, cam, LT, ORY, blowmaster, and self tune. I got some work to do this summer haha
I dont have a cut out but a buddy of mine has a 600-ish rwhp 408 ls2, 60 hp difference with the cutout open. Bone stock engine obviously wont have that kinda spread.
