    header clearance

how much clearance is there needed between the downpipes and the floorboard in order for the pipes to not hit the floor? i have the mac mids with the catted y-pipe. i can just fit a finger in between the cat and the floor..... seems like when i step on the gas right off idle it will briefly hit/vibrate for a second or two and thats it. doesnt hit at speed or anything.

    Banging on the floor board.

I took an old black rubber bungy cord and wrapped it around the left side y pipe and that really helped alot.

I have had the bungy on there for almost 2 years.
I guess it doesn't get hot enough to melt the rubber.
Its a hill billy fix until I go with poly mounts on the engine
like I have on the trans.

The next time I have my exhaust out I'm going to do a write up and show how I adjust that I-pipe to keep the exhaust from hitting. It's all in the angle of the I-pipe coming over the axle. My used to pop the bottom of the floor pretty good until I played with that angle.

i just found out that it wasnt the y-pipe hitting the floor. it was the headers coming in contact with a bolt that was sticking out of where one of the heat shields is connected to. i had to reach in there with a long metal cutting hand saw and after about 45 minutes of cutting i finally got through it and now theres no more vibrating.

if ur exhaust is anything like the slp catback then ur probably hitting right where it goes over the axle and the upper panhard rod. mine just barely hits there after the engine is warmed up. basically get the car high enough so u can get under there and feel around the whole exhaust system. u should be able to fit your hand between the car and the exhaust pipes at all areas. if u cant then theres a chance it will hit at some point when u are driving.

For the leaks try hi-temp aluminum exhaust tape (manufactured by Victor). You can find it online. Works great on the leaks when used w/ band clamps.
