    Fan switch problems

The car in question is a '93 Formula, but I thought I could get help quicker over here in the LS1 section, plus I know this mod can also be applied to an LS1.

I am trying to wire my fans to turn on when the ignition is turned to the "on" position and run constantly. I already have the both fan relays wired, and am using 18 gauge wire. The problem is, everytime I contact the ground wire with the relay wires it blows the Fan/Actuator fuse. I am using the ground where the negative black battery wire is mounted under the hood.

Could it be that I might need an inline fuse between the ground and the relays, or maybe something like 14 gauge wire instead of the 18 to stop it from blowing?

I would just buy the fan switch that SLP makes. Its like 70 bucks and you can do whatever you want to the fans...
