The stock piping is 2.75" into the muffler and 2.5" out.
All aftermarket catbacks are 3" or bigger, mine is 3.5" from the Y to the bumper.

so would there be a big increase in hp compared to the stock or is it not worth it. he is chargeing me 250 for labor muffler and maybe some polished tip or chrome and pipeing to cover the space from the long muffler. is this a good deal or not?

I don't ever trust exhaust shops. I have been to a number of exhaust shops in the past few days trying to find someone who can make me a y-pipe with a flowmaster merge and they tell me it can't be done.

Screw the exhaust shop guy. What do you want out of your exhaust? If he can't do what you want then go somewere else. You might be better off ordering a bolt on kit and doing it yourself if you feel comfortable doing it.

And $250 seems like a lot if you are suppling the muffler there isnt a whole lot of piping back there. I would go to some more exhaust shops to see what kind of prices they give you.

which brands are the bolt on kits and wont it leak i thought welding it would be the best way to do it. The one muffler shop i went to is the best shop in my area and now the only one.

I purchased my frst catback back in `00 and had it hung and welded up at a local mufflerman for $100.
My current Mufflex system I did myself, hardest part was removing the old rusty exhaust,
Took a couple days of driving it and making slight adjustments to get it perfect, but well worth it IMO.

I like band claps but welding is the best way to keep it from leaking. There are a large number of cat-backs out there. Go to ls1sounds there a list of them and some sound clips of a lot of set ups.

Love my Mufflex, I have the 3.5" SOTL with the tucked up turndown.
I have the kit with the Flowmaster 30 series deltaflow race muffler.
I get comments all the time of how it sounds like the car has headers (Deep throaty rumble) but infact the rest of the exhaust is original.

I'd go long tube headers, off road y pipe, and an electric cutout. Cat back is just a waste of money imo.

The only problem is that seems to attract more cops. Plus unless you got some work done to your motor imo cut outs sound like

Hence why I said "electric" cutout. Quiet or loud at the flick of a switch.
