    Enough back-pressure??

Ok, I'm ordering my pacesetter headers and UMI SFC's (3pt.). As of now, I'm running no muffler, my cats supplying the only back pressure. When I install the headers, will I need to also add a muffler now? Or cats? I think I might have a issue keeping the same set-up after adding headers. Not sure what the lack of back-pressure will do. Also, will the SFC's be in the way while installing the headers? Which should I do first?? Thanks for the help.

Backpressure is not a problem, the less the better. The sfc's might only get in the way if you were doing duals, you don't need cats unless you have smog laws, and either stock muffler or aftermarket will be nice because it's going to be to loud without one.

I knew I shouldn't have thrown out the stock one... I'm getting the y-pipe from pacesetter also. Definitely can't afford to lose torque...

trust me you won't lose any torque, i'm running duals with just a bolt-on and tq #'s are great. It's okay you threw the stock catback out aftermarket flows better and you can find some nice used ones for under 300.

I've been beatin around the bush 4 awhile about getting headers. Hope they will bring my car to life. I don't believe the y-pipe from pacesetter has cats. Its only 149 bucks...

Ceramic coated holds in heat better, and will not rust (depending on quality of finish) in wet regions. So for you where it snows stainless pipes with ceramic or stainless headers is the best way to go, and should last you a good long while.

I wouldn't bother with cat's since there aren't any emissions laws in SC. Just run longtubes with a cat-back and you'll be fine.

I am running pacesetter lt and non catted y, runs great, no issues on back pressure, seems like a good system. I did need a good muffler to mask the fact that I have no cats for inspection. no visual inspection if its not obvious, I am running a Frost tune. Works great for me.

when i went from a stock exhaust to long tubes and a catless y-pipe, i didnt feel any loss of anything, what i did feel was a very nice bump in h.p when i gunned it.
the dyno also confirmed the fact i gained 30 with a tune.

for a very nice exhaust set up, i recommend you get the hooker exhaust.
it has that old school exhaust tone with no rasp. the nice thing about the hooker exhaust when your driving the car in "normal mode" is that its not going to rattle your teeth lose.

    case and point from article......
    Backpressure
Some people say a motor needs a bit of backpressure to preserve low-end torque, while others argue that the less backpressure you have the better. "The fact is, an engine does not need backpressure," Scott says. "What it needs is scavenging, which is directly related to exhaust velocity. A common misconception is that you'll lose some low-end torque by stepping up to a larger after-cat system. What's really happening is that the larger-diameter piping is moving the rpm range where the scavenging takes place higher up the powerband. Since exhaust velocity increases with rpm, you're not losing power but moving it higher up in the rpm band instead."

Interesting... I may just go without the muffler for a while, as long as its not absurdly loud. The real question is what it'll do to my numbers... The last slip i posted was:
    RT-.049
    60-2.042
    1/8- 8.436@85.858mph

Just can't seem to get my 60' down, even with drag radials...
