Engine almost dies

I got a 99 SS Camaro that will every now and then surge. What I mean is it will be idling smoothly then have a big miss and almost die. When it does this all the gauges will jump around like you start the car. Then it will throw a Engine Light but continue to run OK. Any ideas!

it could be a miss fire but not sure. you could take it to an auto parts so that they scan the computer.

Dirty throttle body or IAC valve, out of adjustment IAC valve, vacuum leak, or an electrical issue... just a few guesses.

Thanks for the responses. After reading some other threads it looks like I may have an electrical issue. I have had the alternator go out twice and replaced the battery. I had a PS leak that caused both of the issues on the alternator and have corrected that. I am going to check all the connections especially since it sits and the battery is usually down every time I get ready to drive it.
