Electrice Water Pump History
Hello,
I'm looking for info on how and when they fail.
All you guys who are running them or have.
Do they just stop working?
Do they blow the fuse?
Do they start grinding?
Exactly what fails about the average electric water pump?
Thanks for the info. I'm just curious due to the common 50/50 on streetability with them. Want to know all the cons.

Not sure about the cons but their doesn't seem to be any pros. I have about 4 friends with 9 second cars and they all said they are worthless.

Don't have one, but have read alot about them. Thinking about getting one.
Pros= Flow better, much better then stock.
Less parasitic loss with no belt to spin, up to but not average 15 hp
Easy to fix, most time electric motor goes, don't have to take off to fix.
Cons= Expensive
Long trip, if it goes out, most stores don't carry the electric motor.
Thats about it, try looking in the parts review section. There is a thread about it.┌∩┐(◕_◕)┌∩┐

After LS7 clutch and flywheel with slave cylinder. That is going to be my next purchase. That way I can say I am a true complete bolt on.

Yup, get that over and done with. So then I can crack into the motor, and see some real gains.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I'm really wanting to know HOW they fail.
When your pump failed did it just stop or did it blow the fuse or did it start making noise?

Can do, its going to be a bit. Thinking clutch first. Either that or shocks and springs. Don't know what to do.......

Old ones are shit compared to the new modern designs such as the Mazier. It is one big chunk of billet aluminum which also works as a heat sink. They have also designed it so you use a old style thermostat. which means you can run a BIG orifice thermostat which also aids greatly in flow.
I live in the desert in the hottest area of out country. I have installed 5-6 on LS motors and haven't had one fail yet and they are all street cars. I can tell you first hand improper wiring and grounding kill them quickly. I see it all the time with people trying to wire there own nitrous kits too.
It pulls more amperage the hotter it gets. They need to be wired with a relay and grounded good to keep the motor from cooking itself.
Another major mistake is not running any antifreeze. It is there for other reasons other than keeping it from freezing........... The seals in the pump need to be lubricated for regular life. So even if your not where it can freeze you at least need to run a bottle of RedLine's Water Wetter.Don't be afraid of the bottle!!! Be afraid of your tune!!!

If the pump starts getting louder, the seals are failing. If you ignore the seals, the armature is next. My pump lasted one year, then it failed and was rebuilt under Mezeire's two year warranty. Combined with a 160 thermostat, it will keep your motor running cool. Perhaps too cool at times, I am going to a 180 thermostat.
