wiggle it back and forth while pulling....it'll come out. There's just an o-ring holding it in there but it takes some wiggling and pulling to get it out of there sometimes.

I had my starter out when I pulled mine. Used a small flat blade screwdriver to pry it up out of the hole -- very easy.

you get it out then? I've found when I run into this type of stuff it's no so much the technique that gets it out but the well thought out synchronized array of cuss words that do the trick.

, that sucks man. I keep hearing all these horror stories about the dip stick tube but i guess ive just been lucky in the numerous header installs ive done. It always seems to just pop right out, lol. This may be a really dumb question but did you take the actual dipstick out first? Maybe its harder to get out with it in there...

But, technically speaking, if it were a f'n whore, shouldn't it slide in and out easily?
BTW- you guys are making me nervous- I'm installing my headers in a couple of weeks and I've got a running list of pains in the ass I'll have to deal with: dipstick, AIR, y not fitting... damn.

what headers and Y? None of this stuff is hard....mostly just time consuming and from time to time something simple will make it rough on you ( like the dipstick tube). You wanna talk PIA bolts.....the bolt for the a4 tranny dipstick tube is a huge PIA. The bolt for the oil pump tube is too.

i just gave mine a tug. easiest part of the header install

mine didnt want to come very easy, till i stuck a bolt in the dip stick hole and used vice grips, popped right out then.

I agree -- it's not difficult, just time consuming. Accessing some of the bolts is a bit of a challenge. I had my front end covered with towels so I could lay across the car to reach back in under the cowl. Make sure you pop the cowl seal clips out before you get started. Those things will shred your hand in a hurry.
