cooler air = more power?
I've gotta pull my intake this weekend to replace knock sensors my question is while i've got the intake off would a sheet of insulation/hi-temp dynamat between the intake and valley do any good?to keep the intake charge cooler?

cooler air does equal more power and increased efficiency, as far as your idea, i'm not sure

I wouldnt put dynamat there. Maybe the same material that you put over starters. Dynamat is more of a sound deadner.
Youll see maybe a 2 HP gain if that.
Dynamat would make a sticky mess.

make sure if you do put anything there it doesnt keep the intake from sealing

what about heat reflective tape? that might work in that place.

If you got a hile mileage car, you might need the connectors w/ harness for the knock sensors. They get very brittle and break easy since they are a PITA to get off.
As for the dynomat, it easily becomes a slop under there so I wouldn't bother.

You get about 1% increase in hp if you drop 10 degrees from your intake temp. So you would have to drop alot of degrees to achieve a real gain. As it is if your car is running properly i wouldnt worry about it nor do it. If your curious then its up to you and preference either way GL.

Few things to consider on any cold air mod. Firstly folks will get confused and rationalize only small gains from temp drop at WOT or Dyno runs.....allow me to offer another angle....heat soak and the time it takes you to recover from heat soak.....
Bear with me here.....You set at a stop light for 2 minutes before you get moving again...and your intake temps are raised 20 degrees....both from the ambient temps of no air moving +heat from the asphalt...and of course radiator/engine heat.....you guys running a MAF will see timing being pulled quickly.....so you move away from the light and start moving...it will take your IAT/MAF setup a good couple of minutes to readjust that timing retard....so your running around from the light with timing pulled for awhile......so the reason we wrap/insulate as much as we can is to minimize that heat soak....not so much to reduce intake temps......

I would try some kind of heat reflective material, dynamat would be a no go, but should help a little bit

At WOT air goes through the intake in a fraction of a second, so it really doesn't have a chance to heat up before it enters the cylinder. Doesn't seem like a logical thing to try.

Now Oprah I bet she doesnt have that crap under her intake . lol. Outside the intake its probably worth it but with an f=body it wouldnt be practical to wrap 5 inches of intake lol
