    Catalytic converts power loss?

I'm buying a 2001 T/A WS6 and was told the cats need to be replaced. He told me that they are on the way out. I test drove it and it drove fine, with no noticable noise. But i just want to know if i'm lossing alot of power or milage or anything?? Also how much would high flow cats cost for it

if the car your about to buy has under 120,xxx miles on it the cats are still under warranty so you could get gm to replace them or good excuse to buy some headers and do away with them if you can.

My M6 vert's exhaust (stock) sounds blown out on a cold start... as soon as it warms up it goes back to normal. I'm guessing this is my cats... but I haven't noticed a power loss.

some people have told me cats are warrantied for 10y or 100k, others say 8/80 and I've even heard 7/70... I'm still doin the research myself. I know Mass state law is 8/80... and RI usually has the same laws. I would call a dealer, they'll run your vin over the phone and tell if its covered.

dont bother with high flow cats.....just keep the stock ones and have them hollowed out....unless theyre not stainless

8/80 was the original federal emissions cat warranty, in December '06 GM sent everyone a letter extending it on the 00-02 F-cars to 10/120. Bad cats will usually throw the SES for P0420/P0430 depending on which bank. Masse Pontiac needs to put out the correct info....
