Cat going bad, whats a cheap replacement?

Just looking for about the cheapest cat I can find. Damn thing started rattling the day I bought a $700 Colt 45 Not really worried about performance at this point, just want it to stop making that god awfull noise. Was also thinking about just ordering an off-road pipe instead. Will an ls1 run ok w/o cats on a stock tune?

I know plenty of guys that run ls1's with stock tunes and no cats, but you will have to either get O2 simms, or live with the check engine light being on.

How many miles on the car? Catalytic converters are covered under an 8 year/80,000 mile warranty, you may be in luck.

56k miles, I'll check into that, and as far as my check engine light, it's been on since I've had it b/c of the loudmouth on it. Thanks for the help.

Cats ARE covered under 8/80 emissions law....go to dealer and have them replace. Oh and I can already see the argument...."Well your cats went bad because of the Loudmouth exhaust so we are not replacing them"

Personally I would have them replace the cat, them promptly take it off and sell it for some $$$ and get yourself a ORY anyways.

Unless it's a california car...then it's only good up to 70,000 miles. Went to the dealer with 78k on the clock and they said it's not covered...called GM and the same story

Well, no one has lied to me, my O2 sensors have been replaced more than twice, Loudmouth was the only mod I had done to it, and my buddy got loudmouth on his and bam, SES light. But either way, that's not the issue. Thanks again for the info guys, glad to know this isn't gonna cost me.

Sorry to hear about you and your buddy's experience, but there are plenty of people here running cat-back systems that never got a check engine light. SEMA regs state that unless the dealer can prove the cat-back exhaust caused your O2 sensor or converters to fail, they are still obligated to replace them up to the mileage/time of emissions warranty.

lol, that is strange. If anything I would think the warranty would be longer in CA because they are so emissions-anal.

Hurley, it's very illegal to sell used cats. Not sure why but I asked the question at inspection school and i thought they were going to straight up deny me a license then and there. I think it has to do with the fact that the catalyst has platinum in it.

Probably another deal like with R-2 refrigerant. It was used for a long time, then the government decided to make it illegal to buy. However, the navy still uses it to wash down jets.
