Bolt on power
Hi, I'm new to the LS1 game. I recently bought an LS1 SS Camaro and was wondering how to get it to go faster.
I'm thinking about getting the following parts:
1. Pace setter Long tube headers
2. Pace setter intermediary pipe w/cats
3. Flowmaster cat back
4. 80 MM MAF
5. 75 mm throttle body
6. Nitto drag radials
How much power is this combination worth in a M6 and 85k miles 98 SS? What would it go in the quarter mile?
Would this car pass the california smog test? It recently passed but not sure if it would with the modifications.
Thanks!

If u can get a ory y pipe without cats...dnt spend ur money on a maf if any the power gains are slim, put that money towards a better exhaust, the throttle body know nothing about, there are some good threads in here about power gains, im no expert either and also welcome to ls1..any pic

California takes all the fun out of modifying your car.

If your worried about smog and inspection by the friendly police officers i would bypass LT's. Just do catback, exhaust cut out and mod other stuff. Its expensive for labor to install headers unless you do it yourself and even then its not worth the time. I know on my LT1 it made a difference doing Shorties but LS1's ive heard especially 01-02's is not worth it since they flow decent.

Well since you said 98 your stating with the same car as me except I have a TA. I would do a LS6 intake and hey a port throttle body those will hive you a decent gain for cheap money since you can usually find the intake used and the ported throttle body's aren't much I got one under $100 after sending in my core. If you want a flowmaster don't waste money on the catback I had one welde in and new piped from the muffler back and new tips with install it was under $200. ASP underdrive pulley isn't much money and it'll give yousome extra power and still be smog legal. Also if you haven't gotten a lid or intake like a volant that would be a good idea for smog legal power. Lt headers are the way to go if you are like me and have friends that do inspections. My car will pass on the obd2 but fail the visual since I have no cats but I go to places that as long as the comp says it's good I get a sticker just gotta tip the guy $20 for his time. I got another guy I can just buy the sticker from and he doesn't even need the var just the info off my car, vin and mileage I just give him a copy of my insurance and write the mileage on it. There are some mods you can do and still be legal.

Do ported stock heads make pretty good power? I thought about getting mine ported and adding an ls6 cam...

I checked into that but it was only a couple hundred more for stage 2 ls6 heads which come with new springs so you can run a higher lift cam
