Alternator Relocation Kit
So how many of you are tired of replacing your alternator when your PS Pump decides it wants to crap all over it? Or you're looking at installing force induction like turbos?
Well here you go. Thanks to the turbo guys there is a kit that relocates the alternator to the where the EGR used to be.
I got the kit from CBR Performance, cost is $165, $15 more with new belt
LS1 alternator relocation bracket kit
The kit is pretty simple to install, just follow the directions for the the brackets. These were taken during mock up.

Now here's where some fab work needs to be done.
Carefully remove the alternator cover (see pic below). Next trim as close as you can the vent tube off. Need to in order to clear the bracket for the throttle and cruse control.
Like here
Next you need to clock the oil fill tube like so..
Next you will need to reroute the alternator ground cable from the OEM spot to the come along the passenger side. I routed mine behind the wire harness to help keep it off the headers. You will also need to reroute the ECM wire to this side as well. It's that single red wire you see in the pic below. This is going to take some time. You have to break it out of the wire harness that runs along the drivers side and then insert it into the passenger side harness. It was easy for me because I had no engine in the bay at the time.
here is how the belt looks installed:
Once you have the belt installed you tighten it up using a wrench by turning the turn buckle. Remember to tighten the jam nuts or you'll be back here tightening it. A little dab of blue lock tight will help on the jam nuts as well. this now takes place of the OEM tensioner. You need to remove it.
And those that have questions about will a Tower Strut Brace Clear - Yes, at least my UMI brace doesOther bands not sure. Also this is with a sleek beak hood (non-ws6).
As you can see it opens up the R&P area. Only hang up I have is that I need to look for a new location for my catch can that used to sit where the alternator is now.
This kit will also accept 3 other alternators other than the 98-02 F-Body alternator.
105 AMP LS1 truck alternator
145 AMP LS1 truck alternator. Note: valve cover oil filler tube will need to be modified

Nicely done. I see the part number on the belt -- presume it is longer than stock? How about clocking the oil fill tube? I understand that it is easy to break and there is a tab or something that you have to depress.

I see photobucket says I maxed out my bandwidth limit. Should reset on Mar 22nd.
Yes, clocking the oil fill tube can be a PITA for those that have had it on since it rolled off the assembly line. I replaced mine because I got new heads and covers which didn't come with the tube installed.
It should be able to twist counter clockwise. But if it breaks they are under $15

Ok, had thought I did an update already but guess not.
Add a crow's foot to your tool list if you go with this. You'll need it, otherwise it's a major PITA to tighten up the belt.Last edited by SMWS6TA; 01-25-2018 at 09:51 AM.

Does anyone have the bolt specs on the bolt on the bottom left of the alternator? The one that hooks up to the tightening arm.
