98 Z28, want headers, What is good for sound?

I am wanting to ad headers to my 98 Z28, but this is my forst ls1. I know shorty headers bolt directly to the stock pipes, but di they really help that much? I have heard that long tubes are the way to go, but what all else is involved? Is it possible to run true duals instead if a y with a cat back? I know this may sound stupid but I just wanted to know if anyone could help me make the decision and approx price ranges. Thanks

to answer about the true duels and the cat back the answer is no becase if a duel set up came togeather as one then it would be a y pipe . you will not see much from shorites get the LT. you will need long tubes, y pipe (catted or off road), O2 extensions, and O2 simms for the rear ones. also you have to decide If you want the emisson stuff AIR EGR. there are many threads on this site which go into great detail about the process. Hoped that helped.
