Steering Wheel locked up ?

I have a wierd question , a friend of mine has a 2001 C5 and his steering wheel has locked up in his garage it`s a 6-speed and it was running , anybody know what could cause this ???

Only think I can think of is some thing in the columb and ignition has activated the steering lock. As far as that my experiance with vettes is pretty limited.

Steering column lock is common in the C5. Mine did this in my garage with the wheels turned hard left. I could not even move it untill I instaled the CLB (column lock bypass). Go to the Corvette Forum and read the Information at the top of the C5 section on the recall.

I used to have a 98 C5 and it did that once. I heard that this is pretty common. I took it to the local dealership to have it fixed. I cant remember how much it cost.

The dealers fix will make the problem worse. Your column may not lock but the fuel will shut off and you can not drive the car. When they reprogram the computer and add the new K harness the CLB will not stop the fuel shut off.

turn the wheel HARD to the right and try to turn the key at the same time..

this happened to me last year couple times.. I think it has been taken in for the recall per that issue but the dealerships fix didn't fix sh1t.
