Jacking up the car.
I've been told by a vette owner that raising the car with a floor jack should not be done, and you can only use a lift. That has to be wrong, otherwise nobody could work on their own car. Please tell me you can jack up a vette the same as any other car in your garage with a jack and jack stands? More specific a C5.

ok, i'm going to assume that was a dumb question by the lack of answers. So where are the good jacking points to use?

I would suggest purchasing some billet jacking pads, they make plastic ones too but those arent so hot. They lock into slots in the subframe and provide jacking points. Do a search on your favorite vette parts site for jack pucks. Hope that helps

I use a low profile jack and lift the subframes front or back, and put jackstands on the jack points with blocks to distribute the weight(they are small black pads at the "expected" jacking spots. You can't use a jack on the jacking points and then put the jackstand on. It's annoying but that's one of the prices of having a Vette.

Jacking a vette
I just bought some pucks off of ebay for @ $20. They are rubber but should be sufficient. They come in a pack of 4. I bought a low profile(@ 3 1/2 inch) jack from walmart( @ $30). It's a good jack and comes in a case and will lift 2 1/2 tons. That's more than enough for a vette. As far as jack stands go, use your best judgement but I wouldn't do it unless it's absolutely necessary. Just be carefull. I hope this helps.

Unless the wheels have to be removed, i like to use tall truck sized race ramps to act in place of jack stands.

Get a pair of rocker rails and you can eliminate pucks and jack anywhere along the rails
