Horsepower Question
I have heard that the LS1 can safely run around 500 to 550 rear wheel horses until the block starts running into problems (unless it is forged)
I was curious what the C6 coupes can safely run before the engine might start having problems?

I actually read recently that an almuminum ls1 can put up with around 1000rwhp. Providing a proper tune, of course.

Blownc5, how much of ur drivetrain is still stock? im trying to get a ball park idea of how much power my 2000's m6 drivetrain can handle before theres any mods (besides clutch prolly)
otherwise, aftermarket rear? built tranny? driveshaft? subframe connectors

red, silver- 97 and 01 vettes
Of course the important thing in those hp ranges are the obvious valves, springs, hardened shafts, built rear end, etc. JMO of course.

Uh a "forged" block? Are you talking about block strength? I've never heard of a block splitting on an LSx, unlike the 5.0 community where 500HP is pushing your luck. Heck, I ran 576rwhp/590rwtq for 3 years on a factory bottom-end before pushing a head-gasket (my fault) and the engine looked perfect when torn down. The LSx crank is extremely durable and there are guys that have put down over 800rwhp by using forged pistons and ARP fasteners.

cant tell u for sure stock c5 clutch, but stock zo6 (c5) clutch is good to about 450 flywheel horsepower. I got about 390 flywheel hp in my vette. so far no problems but im also running street tires.

450 flywheel hp = at crank/engine, c5z06 have 400 flywhell hp, so 50hp over stock doesn't seem like a big deal. you sure it ain't 450 rearwheel hp?

450hp not rwhp... wow...good to know man! thinking of getting me a C5 or C5Z06 in 4-6 months.
probably sell TA, get a more daily ride, I drive TA only 2-3 times a month...
too little to enjoy really, it's a semi track car... not really daily no more... so c5 full exhaust, tune for now will be a nice daily and wanna switch to M6 since they respond to mods gain 3-4% better.
