Help me build my 2003 ZO6 from stock

If you could do it all over again, starting from stock what would you do...
    Procharger?
    ls2 402/408?
    heads/cam?
    302ci?
    etc?

I would definately stay away from a heavy iron block, I know you didn't mention it, but just wanted to put it out there.

some of my buddies have heads and cam C5 Z06s coming on 500 horses, they are awe-inspireing. thats what I would do if I had one, most cost effective and it's something I could do on my own.

yep^ that why they went to a 6.2 for zr1 so it could handle it better. i think if i had a c5 z i would do full bolt ons, cam, maybe use stock heads but ported and polished, mill them down then throw about a 150 shot on it. be a bad ass lil street car

if i were you i'd drop in c6 z06 suspension, get the transmission brace, zuper charge that puppy and meth injection, and also go with 6 piston fronts 4 rear brakes, get a mini tub and some nice LPE rims...

it's not that good either, especially for a car designed to handle that tries so hard to be lightweight...

no if he just want a stright line go-go car then sure a heavier block would be okay I guess, but on a z06 vette I think thats kind of wasteful..

any mods done like a SC will alter the weight anyway... there are manything that can be done and with a larger cube block iron or alum it will still increase the weight... i'd build a iron lsx 427+ cu in if i had the funds... at that point i could care less about the weight...

I think you guys are assuming OP has $20k to throw into his engine bay, maybe he does, but from his original post, and post#3 I'm sort of doubting it...

Without a budget you dream big!

If the OP has a specific budget it should be posted. Then you don't get jackasses like me saying spend a mortgage on a motor and twins!

I went from a sc LS7 to a head/cam/intake and geared ls7 and have no regrets. Got a new tune and put down alittle extra power went from 518 rwhp to 532 rwhp thru a stalled AUTO. I think this thing as a 9 sec pass in it with some better DA.

I would NEVER put a iron block in a corvette. If anything i would go with a ERL built short block they have been proven to withstand 1500 hp and are aluminum. They are built with stronger sleeves than the stock LS7. Atomicfusion over on corvetteforum is having erl buld him a new engine with a goal of 2200 rwhp.

I pretty much have an unlimited budget to go towards this project. I work in the oilfields 21 days a month (in a camp), and then they fly me home for 7 days. So my monthly expenses are little. I really should be saving for a house... I quit drinking so much also.
I was thinking of ripping the ls6 out and dropping the CR. Adding a procharger, with supporting mods, etc, and calling it a day. I knew of the ls7 having thin walls, I was just trying to keep the people chiming in. What do you think of the 500ci rhs from katech as far as relibality goes? Is anything over 440ci pretty much on borrowed time?

Im pretty sure the you wont have any problems with anything from katech. Unless you are going with a sheetmetal intake that can move some air i wouldnt even bother with the 500ci. You can pull some pretty good numbers out of a 427 or a 440. I mean look at the guys running fully built ls7's over on corvetteforum making over 1000rwhp. I would just go thru erl with the hardend sleeves and add alot of boost if money if no object.
