First Post! I have a C5 drivetrain question...
I'm shopping for a corvette (very slowly) and I've been doing alot of great reading on this site as it is fantastic! My question is, why don't I hear about more guys doing rear gear swaps on these cars? I'm an old 5.0 guy from way back and I know thats one of the most effective things you can do to those. Is it a train wreck? not worth it?

The only thing I've seen that is weak is the left-side output shaft. Most people also get a DTE brace. Other than that, I haven't seen anything about other weak areas. Most people are saying they are safe into the 11's. Obviously driver tactic and manual/auto will play a factor.
If you plan on tracking it often, I would just get it built.

Cool and thanks. Also I'm suprised more Vette owners don't step up to 3.73's or 3.90 gear. I would think that would really wake them up.

Honestly, I don't think there is a whole lot of Corvette traffic here. More f-bodies than anything. Maybe there is, but I don't see it too often in the few years I've been here.
I found that information for you doing a little search though and the information came from a pretty good source.
I personally own an 02 Camaro SS LE that I swapped out the 10 bolt for in lieu of a 9" because I'm going to be running a D1SC in a month.

my dad has a lingenfelter that had 3.90's in it... he had to go higher to 3.73's instead... he's still running the stock rear with wide 345's on the back...
