C6 Z06 Question

I saw a nice program last night about the factory that makes the new C6 Z06 vettes. I didn't know they moved the transmission to the back of the car.

Did they do this for all C6 Z06 years?
Did they do this for the C5 Z06?

They also said the front fenders were carbon fiber. I don't recall what the hood was. I don't think they mentioned it.

The hood is not carbon fiber. GM saved 2.5lbs. on each fender when they went with the carbon. Now that's a commitment to saving weight!
The hood IS carbon on the ZR1.

ah thanks. i didn't think the show mentioned it. The did state all the panels where not steel.

I'm still curious though. Is the C5 Z06 the same torque tube and rear transmission like the C6? I'm guess GM did this for all of the C6 Z06 model years?

To my understanding, the all of the C6's and C5's are rear mounted.

Yes every corvette made since 1997 have the tranny in the rear

The rear mounted tranny helps with the 50/50 weight distribution.

thanks all, yeah the TV program said it was for the weight. Said they wanted better corner handling so they moved the tranny.

the program was about the C6 Z06, so....they didn't say all C5 and C6 vettes had this.

I have never gotten close to a C5 or C6 vette,

. I so want one, lol....
