We'll get our first official look at the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (teased above) at next week's Detroit Auto Show. But thanks to a funny little thing called meta data, it appears some initial details about the new coupe have already leaked out.

Here's what happened. Chevrolet created a special website for the Z06 reveal, and it's already live on the internet. And when you create a web page, you have to give a meta description - that's the few lines of text that show up under a link in search results. A Jalopnik reader noticed that if you search for "2015 Corvette Z06 supercar reveal," Chevy's Z06 launch site appears, and in the meta description, it clearly states that the new coupe will pack a whopping 620 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Searching for this term doesn't appear to show anything anymore (the details have evidently been taken down), but thankfully, the Jalopnik reader was kind enough to pass along a screen shot of his findings.

That power is expected to come courtesy of General Motors' new supercharged LT4 V8, and of course, these might not be the final numbers (we've heard varying bits of information). But if they are, for those keeping track, 620 hp and 650 lb-ft represents a massive increase on both fronts: try 115 hp and 180 lb-ft when compared with the the outgoing Z06's naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8. In fact, this new Z06 pumps out more torque than the C6-based Corvette ZR1. Impressive.

Stay tuned for the full details next week.2015 Chevy Corvette Z06 to produce 620 hp, 650 lb-ft? originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 07 Jan 2014 11:27:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
