Is it worth owning an obd2 california car???
California muscle car owners here yee all , is it just f bodies or all obd 2 cars here, that require cats and o2 sensors ect just to register and drive legaly?
Is the cali smog standards so strict here that it aint worth even buying an obd 2 car built after 1995 cause you pay triple for any smog related item as their designated 50 state only?
My only experience with gm smog vehicles an 88 buick regal cat prob a 93 z28 running hot now a 2001 z28 cat probs service engine soon light.
Maybe just coincidence?
i think it maybe C.A.R.B. stringent standards f'ing up our cali cars.
All i can say is 89 5.0 240 k miles cats changed at 100,000 miles factory replacement orig engine never apart heads never removed i feel here in cali as much as i like the z it s really infuriating me the standards we cali cars must live up to its complicating and makin em more expensive just to register keep and drive?
Which other cali car owners feel the pain?
Whats the solution?
Take a bus?
Pay pay pay?

Well coyote was born here and a postal clown close to retirement so id leave if i could but everyone here goes "oh the weather" "wow', tornados, hurricanes, floods, everywhere else.
Anyways got to be where the job is.
Drivin an old 5.0 bone stock but 140,000 miles on cats
240,000 on engine never failed a smog even here.
Life was good then forgetting how easy everything was
easy to work on comparably, avoided buying any thing new
knowing these tree huggin nanny state C.A.R.B. clowns wrecked all the fun.
I kinda forgot ya know 49 state or 50 state screw job for parts for example
for califoreigners,
Yea good ole Califoreigna nancy pulosi barney frank @ jerry brown stickin it to us califoreignions.
So get this z28 beauty 1 month later service engine soon light, C.A.R.B. rears its ugly head just infuriates,
Difference between me and rest a califoreigners is they surrenderd so long ago driving rice burning 4 bangers they don't even yelp when there gettin it in da a## they smile.
Well other than that lifes sweet!

Get a 74 or older vehicle and do a motor swap. You learn to deal with it, For all the times I have been pulled over I have never been bothered about smog and I have duals

Get the hell outta Cali
I've had family living there since the late 1930's. All I hear is complaints of how that state has changed for the worse.
There are plenty of other beautifull places to live that don't have all the weather disasters you mentioned. Arizona being one of them Nevada is another. New Mexico and parts of Utah are also very nice. Cali isn't the only place for nice weather,,,,trust me. Most Californians have realized this and left for Arizona. As a matter of fact, there are too many Californian transplants flooding Arizona,,,,so forget this advice, we don't want anymore
When we decided to leave Ohio and move closer to her side of the family in California, Arizona is as close as we wanted to get. Still within driving distance to visit, but we don't have to put up with all the California bull. No smog testing, etc...
I've had cars registered in Cali and the crap they make you go through is ridiculous. Thankfully they have moved up the year requirement for testing, which used to go back as far as 67. Now it's up to the early 70's. (Thank SEMA for that) My advice is just as C5Z28 said. If you like your creature comforts and gas mileage and don't want all the e-check hassles, get yourself an older vehicle and install a modern drivetrain, then you have your cake and eat it too.
