so I was looking threw Criegslist and noticed a dealer near by is selling a 98 trans am automatic with 160,000 miles on it for 5 grand....now im thinkin i can talk them down to 3 or 4.....do you guys think its worth it? I was thinkin engine swap with an ls2 and rebuilding the transmission. would that work? How long can an LS1 last before it needs to be swaped?

I would be more worried about the transmission, the engine should go to 200k, especially since it is an auto, at least you dont have to worry about the car being overreved, or mis-shifted

I guess if you could get it for 3-4k, it would be a fun project

yea it seems like a steal at that price......but back to the question will an ls2 bolt up to an ls1 body mounts and transmission?

im not really the best to answer so don't go solely by me...i think an ls2 will bolt in in the place of an ls1. they are the same block. don't see why they wouldn't.
