winter V6 oil question
heres the deal Ive had my 99 camaro rs since april and have changed the oil once. it has around 118000 miles on it. when i changed the oil i used valvaoline max life 10w30 and a can of restore(which got me anotehr 3 miles to the gallon in the city)
well its around that time to change the oil (155 miles to go) and i would like to put an oil that is better for cold weather in it for the winter.(i live in st. louis we dont get alot of snow but its cold as hell) i was thinking of going synthetic but im not sure if thats a good i dea.
what are your suggestioons?

Hey man....You can stick with your Valvoline Max Life 10-30....The 10 weight will pour down at temps of -40f.....I dont think you have to worry about temps getting lower than that in St. Louis......with an engine with that many miles and pouring that gawdawful bullshit in there....you probably want to run 10-30 Shell Rotella for 3-5K with a good filter like AC Delco or Purolator.....damn good oil for your motor over 100K.....and forget about the Ametech Engine Restore oil treatment....fucking metal powder bullshit....clog up all your oil passages to shit.....kiss that motor good bye! Stop using that crap now!
I'm curious of why you are thinking of a synthetic? Are you after the cleaning properties? The enhanced lubrication or the extended drains? YOu can go with a synthetic anytime you wish.....however I would clean that motor first for sure.
Use AutoRX or a good HDDEO like Shell Rotella 10-30 for a few thousand miles.....then go with a synthetic....

I may die any fucking minute so I have to say things quick
Synthetics for your ride.....
Amsoil 0-30/5-40/10-40
RedLine 10-40
Mobil 1 5-40
And yes 10-30 dino is just fine.....Valvoline is good stuff man.....but really I would like to see you run 3-5 thousand miles on Shell Rotella 10-30 and clean her up good......you may just stick with the Rotella from now on would be a good thing. Stay away from Fram....anybody try and sell you a Fram oil filter kick em in the balls.
