windows not working momentary and headlights popping up
I'm having these issues ramdomly lately. The window issue happened three times already. I will have the window/windows down halfwalf or all the way down and the window switch/switches won't work. After hitting them constanly it will eventually work. I tried both switches for which ever window is at question and i get the same results. I'm starting to think it might be my BCM. Does anyone know if the driver side switch is like a master switch? meaning it controls the power to the passenger window switch as well?
The headlights pop up and close once in a while after I unlock my doors using my remote. If I remember correctly this issue was related to a bad headlight motor gear. I replaced one of the headlight motor gear with a bronze one a long time ago because it was grinding. I don't have any grinding at this moment from the headlights? Any ideas?
Thanks.

I *think* the window switch is a master switch. Have you smelled anything burning when you operate the window switches? I only ask as a coworker of mine had to replace the whole switch control and it smoked after replacement. I'm also thinking your issue is BCM related.

You're right about the headlights popping up and down when a gear is bad because mine did that too. Only one side is with a bronze gear? The other is still stock right? I'd think about replacing the other with a bronze gear if it isn't any technical glitches causing that pop up down issue.

Jay my money is on BCM, are you having random radio issues too?
In regards to your question about the drivers switch. have you done the passenger window fix yet?
The power is routed through the drivers switch then all around the dash to the passenger side. By the time it gets there it is just enough to let the motor run. Over time it kills the motor prematurely. The autotrix fix works.
If you need a link let me know I'll send it to you.Last edited by SMWS6TA; 11-02-2012 at 08:05 AM.

If it gets to a point stop working I guess I can try to hardwire the power to them and use a relay to cut power when the switch is off. What does the BCM do for the windows? I know is easy to replace the BCM but I think it has to be programmed to the car's vin? Correct? How expensive could this be? Who can do it? and Do they sell brand new BCMs? Thanks for the replies.

If it is the BCM it's a solder issue. I can try to dig up the thread. There is 3 spots that the solder cracks on.

Jay, I had a similar problem with our 99 Grand Prix GT we had windows worked and then thay would not.. I changed out the switch on the driverside panel it was about $80 (it was a 4 door) and that solved the problem for a year or better then I think the motor went.. That was the start of the nickel& dime so sent it down the road...

Jeff in post 9 I posted the picture of the BCM board. The red circles are the spots that needs to be solder. The BCM is located just under the glove box. IIRC it has a blue/yellow wire harness connected to it. It is a black box about 5"x 4"x 1".
The link is to another site, only directions it gave that was useful was the pic I posted above.
We used to have a good how to thread but it was taken down because the pics in the thread were removed.

Is the BCM a plug in part? Meaning if I change it for another will it work right away? or Is the BCM programmed with the car's VIN?

Update- So far so good. I haven't had no more headlights poppong up or window issues. Not sure if resoldering the contacts helped or the replacement switch.
