For racing (legally) the a4 hands down, the 6 speed is to many gears to go through. In the old days I would prefer a close ratio 4 speed any day over an automatic.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
I cruise/race the 02 while I DD the 98.
That makes me an A4 for drag racing and an M6 for DD cuz it's more fun.
While I raced a 4-speed 69-1/2 A12 Dodge back in the 80's (that's a B-body Dodge Super Bee with a 440 6-pack and an A833 4-speed for you kids - I shoed it for a friend cuz I had the NHRA license) an auto has always been the more consistant time wise.Last edited by 67CamaroRSSS; 12-03-2010 at 08:28 PM.
67 Camaro: K-K + 797-z (look it up), 454/Th400/4.10 12-bolt = 6mpg, PS/PDB/PW tilt, tach, gauges...
2005 Corvette LS2/M6 Magnetic Red Metallic (What else would it be?) w/ Cashmere interior
2002 Z28: NBM/Tan, MTI smooth lid, smooth bellows, !AIR, !cats, 1-3/4" QTP SS LT's, 2-1/2" TD's with X-pipe, MagnaFlows dumped at axle, custom welded SFC's, MidWest Chassis body mount adjustable T/A, 3400 stall, 3.23 gears (was 2.73). Tuned: 343rwhp/357rwt (before TD's). Best: 12.559 @ 108+, 1.73 60' @ 3500' DA w/MT ET Street DR's.

i agree but somewhat dont. I dont recall going through all 6 gears ever racing legally so i dont see your point but i do agree with drag racing, the auto is superior over an m6. And a m4 vs a m6 really doesnt matter if u have the same gearing in it, just the m6 will have 2 more gears...

I have never raced using a 6 speed (have with a close ratio 4), but have read more than 1 post of drivers shifting into the incorrect gear when accelerating, and doing damage down shifting into the incorrect gear @ higher rpm.
JMHO that the 6 gears are too close together.

And just to play devil's advocate, the 6 speed is much more likely to grenade your 10 bolt than the auto.

lol ok well, now i see your point! I definately agree with you but i mean if you know your car well enough and know how to shift you shouldnt have too many problems with doing that.. That was a pretty big issue for me when i first got it but i havent drove a stick in over a year. It took me a few months to get use to that, i never drove a 4 speed but my old ass dad has.. lol
