BLUE- 2000 SS M6
What is up with the metal screen the the TB??
Does it promote laminar airflow for beater breathing or just a hinderance?
How do you take it out and what HP increase would I see? Seems like a good last chance filter if no perf increase

Quick Silver- 2002 Z06
I've heard many things about it. It is a last chance filter for the MAF but you can take it out. I was skeptical at first, but if you check out slp's website they sell an aftermarket MAF and they state that taking the screen out will add over 200 cfm but it is not recommended for street use. So taking the screen out is deffinetly a bonus stock or not. I have had mine off for about 10,000 miles and had no problems. Here is a link to slps site to show you what i'm talking about http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=23062

I took mine out when I ported the MAF. I haven't had any problems.
It's really simple to do. I think I tapped mine out from the back side with a hammer and screwdriver.

I spent 70 dollars on maf ends, they replace the factory metal housing with plastic housing that has no mesh screen or metal divider... and its working great

Navy Blue- ls1 trans am
MTI in houston said its not needed and can be restrictive... they removed it from my car ... but it is a safety precaution.. A guy said he has found stuff on it but I think thats caused from a bad set install of a lid or filter.

It's there as a last chance filter as previously stated-if you pop the hood constantly and take good care of your vehicle like the majority of people on this forum-you won't need it.Now if you sell it to someone .........the OEM has to worry about the person who wouldn't know what an air filter was if it punched them in the face.

I actually took it out on the dyno. Ran the car, took the screen out (in about a minute) ran it, saw 5hp.

The Z06 doesn't use the screen correct?

It is also supposed to even out the airflow over the MAF wire. I don't see the gains outweighing the drawbacks.

Compromises everywhere = be it the MAF screen, squashed y-pipe.
Thanks for the humor.

I had lot of problems with mine when I descreened, I got a lot of detonation (i.e. pinging). I would suggest a tune if you descreen and port it. I have found stuff on my screen before, but I also did the FRA and have SLP airlid that does not seem to fit very well and smooth bellows which are not the best fit either.
