What kind of gas for the LS1
Hi, I just bought a 1999 Trans Am with the LS1. Problem is that when I was in the States, I would put premium, supposedly best 93 octane in my 1997 Trans Am. Now here in Europe, they have 95, 98 and 99 octane gas. Do you guys know the conversions or can I put the 99 octane gas in it without it getting any damage? Thanks

Are the European standards for rating octane the same as in the States? If so, you would be best sticking as close to 93 octane as you can. There is absolutely no performance benefit in running a higher octane fuel. In fact, there may be a slight loss of performance. Higher octane only results in more power when the spark advance is adjusted accordingly. Our cars come with a high and low octane spark table -- but it assumes an octane of 91-93 for "high test" fuel.

Black- 99 WS.6 - Modified
Run the 95. Your car should perform fine. As Jeff said, there's no reason to run a higher octane. I have run 94 in mine without a problem.

I know you guys in Europe get a different owners manual than we do here in the states. It should be listed in there what is recommended if you have it. I'll ask around Monday and see if I can't get an answer.

Custom Swirly Black- 2001 WS6 M6
I got significantly worse gas mileage in other vehicles. And it's only $3 more a fill up here for premium as well, so it made for less stops at the gas stations.
The 95 should be fine, not much difference between that and the 93. The 99 I think would have the effect Jeff mentioned.

Well I had a Suzuki GSX-R 750 bike and that thing was sooo much faster with the 99 octane fuel - it would do 170mph easy, whereas with the 95 octane, it would have trouble hitting 160mph... But I guess I will just try and see if there is a difference in the TA, since you guys say it should not damage the engine

The higher the octane you run the higher timing your car can run. That is why more octane means more power.. if you have a way to tune it.
